Michael Vampire Interview

A Chat with the Vampires Everywhere Vocalist

By , About.com Guide

Chad Bowar: How did you get started in music?
Michael Vampire: Music is my drug and I've been addicted for a very long time. That's all I can really say in response to this question.

Was there an album or artist that inspired you to want to perform music?
There are so many different artists that inspired me throughout my life. Honestly, it wouldn't be fair to just name a couple when there are hundreds I could write and talk about for hours. Lets just say I liked the darker side of things.

What was the first concert you attended as a fan?
The first concert I attended as an actual fan, not just a pair of eyes watching a stage, would be Korn. Jonathan Davis was a god to me and his words got me through many hard times in my life. The same could be said for Marilyn Manson, who helped me through my super depressed years. I would probably say they helped save my life in the worst of times.

What was your first band, and what type of music did they play?
This would be a sensitive question being that most of the bands I played in backstabbed me at one point. Thus mentioning their name would only glorify a bunch of people throughout my life that have brought me misery rather than inspiration.

You named the band after the comic book in The Lost Boys. Were you bummed about the untimely passing of Corey Haim?
The whole band was in shock that day. I just watched The Lost Boys a day before this happened and then boom, he's gone. That movie inspired our band so much and it was definitely a major loss to the world. We send our love to Corey's family through this sad time. I will definitely get a tattoo for this one for sure.

When it comes to vampire inspiration, do you draw more from the classics, or the newer Twilight/True Blood types?
We didn't get inspired by Twilight or True Blood at all. I love True Blood and own season 1, but all of our influences come from the classics. By classics I mean The Lost Boys, Nosferatu, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Bela Lugosi, Fright Night and more. I got inspired by a ton of vampire novels as well, like Interview With The Vampire, Let The Right One In, and European folklore. I consider myself a vampire for many different reasons thanks to all these amazing ideas and stories listed above that inspired me throughout my life. There are many many more that I didn't name, and some which I will never name due to their personal content and a love I have for a hard to find book or movie. Try reading some European olklore and I guarantee it will open your eyes to some crazy stuff.

A few sites have said less than complimentary things about the band. What's your response?
There will always be haters out there. If some of the world's biggest artists listened to their critics and stopped playing music then we wouldn't have half the stuff we call epic classics. We love what were doing and it feels right to us..if you don't like it, don't listen.

Anything else you'd like to mention or promote?
To our fans, thank you for helping us grow and believing in us. We will keep on being true to ourselves and bringing you music that comes from our heart. We love you all. You can find our 2 song CD available at all Hot Topic locations April 13th and see you all on tour in July!
