Dina Zambelli Interview

By , About.com Guide

Chad Bowar: What are the band's tour plans?
Dina Zambelli: We definitely want to go out there and play live. We are looking for a booking agency and are also talking with Zeta X to play some gigs together. The band used to tour with Zeta X once already and this seemed to be a good idea.

What is the music scene like in Liechtenstein?
The music scene in Liechtenstein is just like the country...small! There is no chance to find a lot of clubs to play in or to find a lot of bands. There are some pretty good bands though that just don't have the opportunity or bring up the effort to get somewhere.

How did you get started in music?
I started to sing at a very early stage of life. Music was always something very fascinating to me and something that touched me inside. My dad exposed me very early to classical music. He also taught me to "listen" to music not only hear it. Later I figured that I am a big fan of movie soundtracks. But before composing by heart I had to play the soprano flute and then the alto flute. Afterwards I started to play the guitar and whenever I reached a piano I started to play around.

I sang in various choirs and a school band. In choir I've learned a lot about listening and finding harmonies and whole choir parts. Since I can't read notes I am very thankful for choir lessions because I can put a whole choir together in my head without notes. Then I took classical singing lessions and afterwards I did not have a lot of time anymore for singing when I started to learn my job and to work. But I've always been missing music when I did not have the chance to do anything in that direction. I'm known in my village as the one with the portable CD player and music in my ears.

Who were your musical inspirations?
There are a lot of singers I like to listen to. Tori Amos, Sharon den Adel, Alanis Morissette or Amy Lee for example. I admire composers like Hans Zimmer, Harry Gregson-Williams, Tuomas Holopainen and James Horner.

Who are your heroes (either personal or musical)?
Definitely my biggest hero is my Dad. He is such a strong, quiet and intelligent person. He had heart failure and actually was dead. They wanted to pull the plug but after three weeks he came back and is still recovering. And he was always proud of his kids them working for the things they want to achieve in life.
