Usually Korpiklaani has a song or two per album in English, but Ukon Wacka is completely in Finnish. However, you don't have speak the language to figure out what the song “Tequila” is about. Like most of the songs on the album, it's a rousing, upbeat anthem. There's no shortage of catchy songs, with instantly memorable tracks like “Päät Pois Tai Hirteen.”
Korpiklaani infuses folk instrument effectively into the mix on songs like “Tuoppi Oltta,” blending crunchy guitars with flutes and accordions. Jonne Jarvela's distinctive vocals are in good form on Ukon Wacka. He doesn't have a ton of range, but he delivers the lyrics with passion and a bit of an edge.
While most of the songs on the album are the kind you'd lift a glass to, Korpiklaani changes things up with the title track, It starts off slower and more ominous, kicks into humppa mode, then slows down again before an upbeat, folk-infused conclusion. It features guest vocals from Finnish singer Tuomari Nurmio.
At this point in their career, Korpiklaani isn't doing anything fans haven't heard before. But those fans will be satisfied with Ukon Wacka, an album with excellent songwriting, good production and quality musicianship that will maintain the band's title as most likely to cause a hangover.
