Guide Review - Mr. Death - 'Death Suits You'

The monstrous Mr Death return with Death Suits You, a six song EP. A vicious slab of powerful Swedish old school death metal (OSDM,) Death Suits You is a welcome follow up to Detached From Life, last year’s fantastic debut full-length album from Mr Death.

Mr Death play pure, OSDM with plenty of huge riffs, a really thick production, and a variation of tempo ranging from a mid-paced dirge to an all out blast on Death Suits You, an EP that pretty much picks up where Detached From Life left off. The Sunlight Studios-era of Swedish death metal is obviously the template, although Mr Death’s sound is modern and polished, courtesy of the engineering talents of Tomas Skogsberg. Mr. Skogsberg is well known for twiddling the knobs for a variety of Swedish death metal bands over the years, and scene veteran Fred Estby has a hand in the recording, as well.

Given the names tossed about in this review, you can essentially assume that Mr Death is going to pummel you into submission with a well done slab of awesome death metal, and that’s exactly what they do with Death Suits You. If any difference in this EP and the preceding album can be detected, it is that Death Suits You has an even more powerful sound than its predecessor.

The songwriting and musicianship are more than adequate, and Death Suits You will allow even more anticipation to build for Mr Death’s next full-length. If you’re heavily into OSDM, you’ve no excuse not to head out right now and pick up Death Suits You. What the hell are you waiting for?!
