It's an apt album title. After an intro, Sounds Of Violence launches into 45 minutes of pummeling thrash. “Born For War” features galloping riffs from Rockett and Andy Rosser-Davies and catchy grooves. Onslaught expertly balances intensity and melody throughout the album. There's not a huge variation in tempo, although they do slow things down periodically on songs like “Code Black.”
There's not a lot of surprises here, just a massive dose of skull-crushing metal with first-rate guitar work and angry lyrics. The proceedings wrap up with an all-star cover of the Motorhead classic “Bomber.” Phil Campbell from Motorhead agreed to lend his guitar talents to the track, and his presence adds a lot of legitimacy. Tom Angelripper from Sodom also provides some guest vocals.
Producer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Hatesphere) does a nice job giving the album a potent punch while keeping Onslaught's edge and not becoming too polished or processed. There's riffage galore on Sounds Of Violence, and although there could be a bit more variety, thrash fans will find plenty to dig their teeth into.
