Guide Review - Eyes Of Fire - Prisons

The dreaded "sophomore slump" has no place in Eyes Of Fire's vocabulary. Their second album shows no signs of that. As a matter of fact, they've made a quantum leap forward in all aspects. Their songs are harder edged, but they've also managed to keep the doomy, gloomy atsmosphere.

Eyes Of Fire utilizes two guitarists which creates a wall of sound. They also have two vocalists mixing in different styles such as death metal growls, speaking vocals and melodic singing. The melodic singing is generally solid, but there are some cringeworthy off-key moments. And just when you think you have their style pegged as doom or goth metal they delve off into prog metal territory.

This is a well-rounded and diverse album with a lot of depth and intricacy. It takes a few listens to appreciate everything that's going on.
