Guide Review - Insense - Soothing Torture

Norway's Insense plays technical metalcore in the vein of groups like Meshuggah or Killswitch Engage. There are strong riffs and melodies, but also a lot of aggression.

The title is an appropriate one. Several of the songs start off quietly and after lulling you with the premise that it's going to be soothing quickly erupt into brutality.

Musically Insense are a very solid band. They are technically sound and have a good groove. The vocals are also good in most places, but sometimes get a little out of control and he sounds like a teenaged boy with a cracking voice instead of an intimidating metal screamer. There are a few melodic vocal parts as well and those are pretty shaky.

For the music they get a 4, but the vocals only get a 2. That averages into a 3 star rating.
