Judas Priest - Rising In The East DVD

The Bottom Line

The return of vocalist Rob Halford is a triumphant one. Even though they look a little long in the tooth they've never sounded better.

Guide Review - Judas Priest - Rising In The East DVD

Judas Priest's CD Angel Of Retribution, the first after the return of singer Rob Halford, got mixed reviews. That's not the case with this DVD. It's excellent from start to finish.

No disrespect to Tim "Ripper" Owens, who did an admirable job filling in for Halford, but Judas Priest isn't Judas Priest without the Metal God at the mic. His voice has never sounded better. He stalks the stage with the energy of a much younger man, and really shows his range on the acoustic cover version of Joan Baez's "Diamonds And Rust."

The band does a few newer songs, but the majority are the classics like "Living After Midnight," "Breaking The Law," and "Turbo Lover." This is more than a concert, it's a show. Halford has multiple costume changes and even rides onstage on a Harley motorcycle.

The video and sound quality are very good. It's was recorded in 5.1 surround sound so you can really get that concert experience. The only thing preventing this from being a perfect 5 star review is the lack of any bonus material on the DVD. It still is a must-own for Priest fans.
