Guide Review - Nightmare - The Dominion Gate

Even though they've been around since 1979 and have released several albums, this is Nightmare's first release that has U.S. distribution. It's about time.

The band's former drummer Jo Amore is now the vocalist and he has the prototypical power metal style voice. More importantly, he knows how to use it. He is able to belt it out when needed and also to dial it back in the quieter parts of the songs.

There is a lot of diversity in this album. They do everything from slow ballads to uptempo, driving songs. Within the songs there are plenty of guitar solos, acoustic interludes. A couple of songs are very epic and almost operatic with a choir singing backup. There are also some guest female vocals and guest male growling death metal style vocals which add even more variety.
