Guide Review - Rhapsody - Live In Canada 2005: The Dark Secret

The Italian band Rhapsody call their style of music "film score metal." It's an atmospheric brand of music with lots of keyboards and strings and classical influences.

The live album is a mixture of songs from all of the band's albums. It gives a good cross section of their career. Rhapsody doesn't write songs, it composes them. They are very complex and epic, and the song "Erian's Mystical Rhymes" clocks in at over 13 minutes.

Fabio Lione has a prototypical power metal voice with the high range and plenty of vibrato that is almost operatic. Sometimes that vibrato gets a little much, but his style definitely suits the music.

The recording quality of the album is excellent. The band sounds crystal clear, but you also heard some ambient crowd noise in the quieter parts of the songs.
