Guide Review - Satariel - Hydra

The Swedish band Satariel mixes a lot of different influences into a very satisfying album. The songs are mainly slow in tempo, but they are still very heavy. There are also some acoustic guitar parts that make for a nice change of pace. Stylistically it's probably falls under the black metal umbrella, but there are also a lot of melodic death metal sections.

It's also a very vocally diverse album. There are black metal raspy style vocals, lower pitched death metal vocals and melodic vocals. Some songs have a female vocalist as well.

Satatriel's songwriting skills are also impressive. They deftly change tempos and textures and vocal styles giving each song a very distinctive sound. They are a band that's been around for over 10 years and now that they are getting more North American exposure they should deservedly attract many more fans.
