Guide Review - The Deviant - Ravenous Deathworship

The thing that stands out most on The Deviant's debut album is the vocals. Usually black metal vocals are high pitched and raspy and death metal vocals are low pitched with more of a roaring sound. These vocals are a combination of both of those styles. The words are mostly understandable and the vocals are lower pitched like death metal, but with that black metal raspiness.

Even though they are classified as a black metal band, their music is much more death metal. It has the double bass, blast beats and thrash oriented riffs. The Norweigan band does inject some of that black metal atmosphere into the songs.

The Deviant is off to a great start. They've blended old school thrash guitar with death metal brutality and black metal darkness into an excellent first album.
