Guide Review - Everything’s Ruined – Survival Program

Everything’s Ruined is angry, and they want you to know. The subjects of the five songs on their most recent EP, Survival Program, run the gamut from social rage to disgust at personal betrayal, but throughout the message is the same: these are the things that make us angry and this record is how we feel about them. It’s a strong, straightforward message, delivered with devastating emotional intensity by all members of the band in a tightly focused knot of rage that will give you twenty-one minutes of full-fledged anger therapy.

However, not all is one-sided screeches of rage and bursts of bludgeoned guitars. Everything’s Ruined certainly doesn’t have a lot of subtlety, but they do mix in some memorable riffs that rise well above the level of deafening background noise. In addition, they have vocalist Ash Serpenti, who takes his lyrics of almost desperate hate and delivers them in a raw scream that’s one of the more unique hardcore voices I’ve heard. Some might find his voice a bit grating, but overall I like what Everything’s Ruined has to say on Survival Program.
