Satyricon Biography:

Satyricon is a Norwegian black metal band that has been active for almost two decades. The band writes and records as a two-piece: Satyr plays the bulk of the instruments and writes the songs, while legendary black metal drummer Frost (Gorgoroth and 1349) handles all percussion. Satyricon’s earlier works dabbled in medieval themes. Beginning with the 2002 album Volcano, the band has played more stripped-down, straightforward black metal with an almost rock-and-roll feel that has garnered play on satellite radio and attracted more mainstream metal listeners.

The band has played and recorded with numerous black metal luminaries including Fenriz and Nocturno Culto of Darkthrone, another Norwegian band that has experimented with their sound later in their career.

Recommended Album:

Now, Diabolical
Purists would say that the pick here should be Nemesis Divina, which has a classical black metal feel and a more bombastic approach. But the stripped-down and lean Satyricon is the best; the tracks “The Pentagram Burns” and “K.I.N.G" are among the most memorable in Satyricon’s canon. Satyricon’s stylistic shift highlighted the band’s innate songwriting talents.
