- I know they are not a hair band by any means, but to me the song Simple Man by Lynryd Skinyrd is one of the best hard rock ballads of all time and it came out in the early 70's, it's as powerful as anything anyone has done since to me. My top 3 Power Ballads 1. Simple Man 2. "Alone Again" by Dokken 3. "Always Somewhere" by Scorpions
