From the article: Best Swedish Metal Bands
Here's my list of the best heavy metal bands from Sweden. What other bands do you think should be on the list, and why? Who Are The Best?

You forgot to mention one band

In my opinion Dead By April should be refereed in this topic, they are pretty awesome, they have clean and screaming vocals, great guitar parts (not the hole song) and great beats. The lyrical part can reach our hearts and I myself think that it's rare nowadays to find bands like we posted on this thread. Chears

Metal in ilstef has certainly branched out further towards the extremes. I d say power metal represents the closest evolution of the traditional sound, but it certainly stands on its own. Traditional metal has always represented a base starting point from which bands have pushed on and out though. In terms of breaking new ground though, I suppose instrumentally there isn t much new that can be done within Traditional Metal at this point that would allow a band to remain in the genre without stepping into power or folk areas of play. Add too much intensity and you drift into thrash territory, or slow it down too much and you can run into doom.Still, I think it would be premature to openly declare the genre dead. If you look at the resurgence of bands in the realm of 70 s grooves/old-school doom recently, and project forward, there is always the possibility of new bands riding a wave of traditional metal at some point. The founding fathers of the genre will still leave an impressive legacy of music, and you can easily say exposure to it will probably be more pronounced to the current young metalheads than the aforementioned 70 s founders music. It s always been a strong sub-genre musically, with far less bad than the others, but it I don t think it has the luster. It s hard to puff out your chest and say, I play in a traditional metal band . Maybe that s part of the detraction from choosing that style as opposed to something more extreme.

Prog Meta lis also Metal ! PAIN

PAIN OF SALVATION is one of the greates bands. Their music is metal , although sometimes ROCK or Folk. I think Pain of Salvation should be at the top of the list. BTW they are currently touring with Opeth.

Spiritual Beggars

If you include stoner metal, I would have to put in a vote for Spiritual Beggars. They rocked at Loud Park 10 in Japan. Return to Zero is lovely album start to finish.

thanks!

I have to agree with a lot of the bands on this and am excited to look up and listen to some of the bands on this list! Some people commenting here need to realize not everyone will share the same opinion. 20 Bands is definaitly not enough to say all of the amazing bands from Sweden!

wheres Dissection?

dissection is no where visible on this whole article. not even in the comments. and i would also say EARLY swedish DEATH metal is the best. the first in flames album, early Dark Tranquillity, ALL dissection, Unleashed, Ceremonial Oath, Lord Belial, etc. i like to go for Melodic, Evil, and Heavy. with little to NO clean vocals. BLACK METAL FOR LIFE!

i agree...

...with everyone who suggested SCAR SYMMETRY. their lyrical style is unlike anything i've ever heard.

Forgot Some NWOBHM Era Greats

How about the mighty Gotham City? Silver Mountain? Pretty Maids? Axe Witch? Look to the past to understand the present.

Scar Symmetry! Saw them when they were in NYC and they absolutely kicked ass!!!

Cult of Luna

This list needs more Cult of Luna and less cookie monster metal.

Europe?

A classic swedish heavy metal band that most of the guys listed in the bands above grew up listening to. A great live band just like In Flames and most of the other swedish metal acts.

Bathory

Bathory is listed. Check page 2. They are number 11.

Bathory

you missed Bathory. Bathory is the father of the extreme metal genre and its subgenre like black metal

This writer doesn't know metal

The fact that At The Gates is way farther down than a crappy, talentless, unoriginal "metal" band like In Flames makes me sick. Opeth arguably deserves to be number 1, but so does At The Gates. Anyone who knows anything about melodic death metal knows In Flames is anything but melodeath...their old stuff has no power, and their new stuff is just unoriginal cookie cutter metalcore crap. IMO it should be Opeth/ATG, ATG/Opeth, Dark Tranquillity, Messhugah, Amon Amarth, and then Arch Enemy...and so on and so forth. Also, LOL! Soilwork is TERRIBLE!! How DARE anyone put them AS BETTER than the Kings who started it all, At The Gates. This is why people who don't know anything about metal shouldn't be writing articles like this. It makes people that are new to the scene actually think they are listening to good music, when, in fact, they are not.
